What is a values masterlist?
A values masterlist is a comprehensive list of all the beliefs, attitudes and ideals that are important to your family unit and that you want to teach your children.
Why is having a values masterlist important?
I’m a busy parent who has lots of competing priorities so I know how easy it is to get stuck going through the motions of day to day activities. There’s so much to do and so little time to do it and that means that things can often fall to the wayside. Despite being busy it’s important to me that I make time for my daughter where I am fully present and connected, and because you’re here and reading this I know that it is important to you too.
If we’re all busy parents then how we can ensure that the time we do have with our children is time where we are fully present, connected and that adds value? That is where your values masterlist comes in. A values masterlist is important because it sets you up to be purposeful about the way you parent. It provides you with clarity and direction in regards to all the important things you want your children to know.
Your unique values masterlist is not only a list of ideas about how you want to live your family life but it is also a parenting tool that you can reflect on when you feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of raising your children and need guidance.
When you are clear about your family values you can intentionally connect them with lessons and experiences that are appropriate and educational for your children. And, more importantly you can use those values as a starting point to being a more mindful, connected and present parent who teaches their children valuable life lessons and skills and raises them to be well rounded individuals.
